Sustainability is the need of the moment. WWF has worked relentlessly towards a more eco-friendly future with an initiative called Earth Hour started in Sydney in 2007. It is a movement working at the grassroots level globally to unite people to actively take action on environmental issues and help protect our planet. Observed every year in March, it is marked by switching off any non-essential lights for an hour from 8:30 to 9:30 pm (local time). It connects millions of people in over 190 countries and territories working towards a shared goal of driving support for renewable energy and raising awareness on climate change and sustainability.
Earth Hour has been observed in India since the last 15 years and is getting bigger every year. 2024 recorded India’s biggest switch-off yet. Deeply passionate about sustainability, we have been actively participating in Earth Hour since 2008. With activities like ‘lights off,’ cyclothons, and tree plantations, Woodland has been advocating for Earth Hour Day. Additionally, we have contributed solar lighting to over 100 households in the villages of Madhya Pradesh & the Sunderbans as eco-friendly lighting sources and lowered the dependency on forest resources. We also joined the movement to ‘Give Up’ and Give Back to the planet by letting go of wasteful habits to do our part.

Wondering how you can do your part?
Earth Hour is an event where anyone can participate. Join the movement by giving an hour of your time doing something positive for the earth. Click here to become a real changemaker by taking the pledge to be water wise.
This year Earth Hour is being observed on the same day as World Water Day, i.e., 22nd March, with the theme Glacier Preservation. The goal is to lay emphasis on footprint reduction, river and wetland rejuvenation, and conservation of aquatic species. It urges people to not only switch off but also to inspire them to #BeWaterWise in all aspects of their lives throughout the year.
